YouthBuild Does Job Readiness

My name is Matthew Joseph Martinez, and  I just want to say that I had a amazing experience at the Blueprint for Success job fair on April 27, 2017. I want to say that I'm very happy I got my first job and I'm happy to start working. The YouthBuild  family and I  were  really excited to be at the job fair we really had a great time. Most of us left with interviews on that same day.  The reason why YouthBuild went was because it was getting us ready for the real world. It also made me step out my comfort zone which I don't really do but that's what they teach us: to not to be afraid of anything.

My personal experience at the job fair was great; I never felt so nervous in my life. I thought I was not going to get any interviews with any company. But I took a deep breath and calmed myself down and I started talking to people.  I felt like I was doing good for the most part. I stepped out my comfort zone, and I talked to a lot of different companies.  I talked to Chipotle and there were also people from the

Santa Monica Pier to see who would like to work with the food or the games and so much more.

The company I was talking with was Chipotle and I really was interested  because it would give me a good opportunity to work in a kitchen. That gives me hope of working and running  my own kitchen one day. The thing that motivated me was how many young men and woman  were  there trying to do the same as me, trying  to get a job, so I felt really comfortable at that moment. i knew I wasn't going to leave there without any job interviews.

 

Well I got hired at Chipotle the same day as the job fair, so I was really excited to finally get my first job. Chipotle is a Mexican grill that serves burritos, tacos, and a whole lot of other great Mexican food. I feel like working at Chipotle will help me improve my people skills and also  give me a great opportunity to work with others. The work readiness class helped me so much with my resume and  it also gave us all a mock interview to prepare us for a real interview, which really helped me because in my real interview i wasn't  nervous at all. I stepped out my comfort zone and it helped -  i got the job at Chipotle. So once again a big thank you to the people that organized the job fair;  I’m very thankful for everything, and you guys really helped me out a lot.
