Meet Lizbeth Gomez

Workforce Challenge:

Inglewood resident Lizbeth Gomez, age 18, was part of a low-income family and was spending most of her time caring for her disabled mother but needed a job to help sustain their household. She turned to the South Bay One-Stop Center in Inglewood for assistance in getting work.

Workforce Solution:

After orientation, intake services, and various assessments, it was determined that Lizbeth was best suited for a paid internship through the WIOA Youth Program. She was placed at the Inglewood One-Stop Center, where she assisted Case Managers with administrative support.

Lizbeth was a hard worker and was integral in providing file management, payroll processing, answering phone calls, and interacting with students. The Inglewood One-Stop Business and Career Center assisted Lizbeth in enrolling into El Camino College. She was also placed into full-time employment with one of the SBWIB’s partners, The Smile Studio Dental Office, in Inglewood.

Outcome and Benefits:

The internship equipped her with skills to pursue a receptionist role in the medical field. Despite her full-time employment and caregiving responsibilities, Lizbeth remains committed to her education.

“South Bay Workforce Investment Board’s youth enrichment programs are absolutely amazing in that they prepare young adults with professional preparation, skills development, and training.”
