SOUTH BAY WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD

Meet James Camper
At 18, James Camper of El Segundo was eager to start working but lacked experience and direction. Encouraged by his high school counselor, he connected with the South Bay One-Stop Business & Career Center in Inglewood, where staff identified his eligibility for both Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the Student Training Employment Program (STEP). With their support, James began a paid placement at Party City, gaining valuable customer service skills and confidence.
After completing WIOA, he continued with STEP and was referred to the Department of Rehabilitation. This led to a teacher’s assistant role at El Segundo High School. James’ journey shows how layered support and determination can help youth with barriers succeed in the workforce.
“The services I received at the Inglewood One Stop are helpful. If you are in need, please do not hesitate to reach out. You will thrive!”
