Pete Freeland, a veteran aerospace engineering manager with over 40 years of experience, faced an unexpected layoff from a major aerospace company. With a diverse background in aerospace, entertainment, and aviation, including roles as a test pilot and film producer, the job loss marked a major shift.

Through the SBWIB’s Rapid Response program, Pete accessed vital support for dislocated workers, including job and training resources. He used this opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream, earning his instrument and commercial pilot ratings at Sling Pilot Academy. Pete now performs as an air show pilot and leads STEM outreach, using vintage aircraft to inspire youth to pursue careers in aerospace and aviation.
