Where We Began
In 1996, a concerned group of South Bay business leaders, education providers and community leaders came together to tackle one question: “how can we help our students succeed?” The answer was simple: “By working collectively to give them every available resource”.

Supported by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board’s Youth Council, we established an regional education and training collaborative, The South Bay One Stop Business & Career Centers Youth Programs, formerly known as the School-To-Career Alliance. Our partners work together to deliver comprehensive programs that provide academic support, school-to-career services, mediation services, technology training, and workforce preparation. We act as an intermediary, linking the services of businesses, K-12 schools, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations.

What We Do
We understand that it takes a community working together to produce the leaders of the future. To this end, our programs support the many stakeholders who participate in the development of students. Our services include:
  • Career Technology Centers, located at high schools, middle schools and community centers, serve more than 2,000 youth each year. Visit one of our 12 Centers and find out more about online resources, tutorials, academic incentive programs, and other support services.
  • SCANS Curriculum Integration Resources provide K-12 teachers with the opportunity to fulfill state-mandated academic requirements through hands-on curricula. Visit our page for Educators and find out how you can access workshops and one-on-one assistance that will help you integrate standards based curricula with real world work experiences.
  • Workplace Tours, Job Shadows and Career Fairs give teachers and students a first-hand look at how academics learned in the classroom are applied in the workplace. From February to April, Chamber of Commerce member companies will provide a first hand look at today and tomorrow’s workplace.
  • Blueprint Internships equip students with job seeking and job keeping skills. If you are a high school junior or senior, you can get paid to learn the ropes through a summer internship. Schools and community-based agencies can host a Blueprint For Workplace Training. Students can become a Blueprint Student by participating in the Blueprint Training to attend the Blueprint Internships Job Fair. Businesses can hire a Blueprint Student in a summer internship.

We collaborate with partners who provide the following services:
  • Innovative Educational Systems (IES) provides employment, academic enrichment and leadership development services to low-income, WIA-eligible youth with barriers in the cities of El Segundo, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale and the unincorporated area of Lennox. IES is a community-based agency contracted by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board.
  • Building Adolescent Minds, Inc. (BAM) and the UCLA-ASU SHAPE Program provides tutoring services and peer advising. Are you a high school student desiring to improve your grades and enter college? Visit our Youth page and check BAM/UCLA SHAPE.
  • Centinela Valley Juvenile Diversion Project provides free peer mediation training to K-12 students and teachers and family counseling services. If you are a student or parent and having trouble at home, they can help you through quality counseling and mediation services.
