Albert   Harnois
found success at
South Bay One-Stop Business and Career Center in Inglewood

Albert Harnois is a well-educated man who worked very hard at obtaining his degrees in computer science, engineering, and law. However, he found himself with a large problem when he chose to take a severance package from Hughes Aircraft Company to obtain a better position -- he was overqualified. Over qualification is a problem that can be as difficult to overcome as being under qualified. His attempts to obtain employment were met with constant rejection primarily based upon the popular belief that he would not remain with the employer and thus not make for a stable and reliable employee. Mr. Harnois decided to seek expert advice on how best to approach the problem. So he went to the South Bay One-Stop Business and Career Center in Inglewood. Albert met with a counselor who advised him on how best to approach the subject of over qualification. He took full advantage of all of the services the Center had to offer. Mr. Harnois was able to learn about what he was and was not doing correctly to convince an employer that he was the right man for the job. “The staff at your Inglewood One-Stop constantly encouraged me to try my best. One Stop not only provided me with the physical resources such as computers and fax machines, but also provided me with the encouragement I needed to forge ahead in the face of negative feedback” said Albert Harnois. As a result of his diligent efforts and perseverance, after over three months of persistent job-hunting everyday at the One-Stop Center, he was able to obtain many lucrative job offers. Albert eventually chose an excellent employment opportunity with Qualcomm Inc. as a Patent Attorney, earning over $150,000 per year plus stock options. Currently, Albert helps secure Qualcomm’s intellectual property rights, which are Qualcomm’s most important assets. Albert’s story is a genuine example of a success.
