Highlights

  • Victim Offender Restitution Services (VORS) performed 330 mediations and trained 21 new volunteer mediators.
  • VORS was selected for a study conducted by the State Judicial Council and found that VORS reduces recidivism of participating youth by half, restitution paid by VORS Participants averaged 166 times more than that paid by non-participants, VORS participants completed community service assignments 6 times more than non-participants and VORS maintains a 95% satisfaction rate among all participants.
  • VORS staff trained 52 Probation Officers on the philosophy of restorative justice, victim's rights.
  • Families Able to Resolve Situations (FARS) conducted 226 family mediations and trained 30 new volunteer mediators.
  • FARS reported a 90% success rate in satisfied family members as evidenced by the post mediation surveys.
  • FARS established a program at Washington Prep and Duke Ellington High Schools called "Bright Futures". This program will provide in-house suspension, tutoring, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Students Able to Resolve Situations (STARS) conducted over 1000 mediations at 30 local schools and trained over 800 students in conflict resolution and peer mediation.
