The
first annual South Bay Workforce Investment Board/Youth Development Council
Business and Youth Community Forum entitled “Growing Your Workforce, Building a
Bridge to the Future”, took place Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Redondo Beach at
the Portofino Hotel and Yacht Club. The
well-attended event brought together stakeholders from South Bay area
businesses, educators, and members of the community to set youth employment
readiness and performance standards for the region. Participation in this forum provided educators with a voice to
the education and training community to define what youth should know and be
able to do while earning and learning in jobs and internships in the public and
private sector. This community forum
contributed to the vision of the Board and the Council to promote a
community-wide effort toward youth education and training, which results in
local youth becoming a major asset to South Bay communities. Among the attendees were, City of Redondo Beach
Council member, John Parsons, City of Inglewood Council member Sandra
Delahoussaye-Bonds, City of Hermosa Beach Treasurer, John Workman and Pablo
Catano representing Senator Edward Vincent.
